JUNIOR CRICKET PROGRAMS
AGES 5-16 YEARS
Thanks for your interest in Cricket. On this page you will find information on the programs on offer at Mt Eliza Cricket Club. We are a volunteer run club and pride ourselves on our community environment. Parents/carers are required to assist on rotation with training/game days, your active involvement enriches your child’s experience.

JUNIOR BLASTERS
AGES 5-7
For those new to the cricket scene Junior Blasters is the equivalent of the AFL Auskick program aimed at Boys and Girls approx. 5-7 years of age that have never played cricket before. Mt Eliza Cricket Club holds sessions on Thursday afternoons which go for about 60 mins (5.00-6.00pm) and is led by an experienced blasters coach. We work on basic cricket skills which include Batting, Bowling, Catching and Throwing. Our coaches also have a couple of fun games that everyone gets to participate in!
Children will be put into groups on the day that will rotate between the different activities, everyone gets to have a go at each activity. We strongly encourage parents to join in activities with the kids, from our experience there is nothing better for the kids than having their Parent/Carer join in and have a go! The coaches like to keep everyone on their toes so be ready for a few surprises throughout the session.
To ensure the safety of all participants, we use plastic bats and a rubber ball. Activities use softer balls of different sizes, as well as blind cricket balls, so kids can participate and develop at their own pace.
We provide an environment focusing on kids abilities.
Junior Blasters:

MASTER BLASTERS
AGES 6-10
This exciting program is aimed at Boys and Girls aged 6-9. Now that you have graduated from Junior Blasters you can play in the Master Blasters Cricket Games. This is also for kids ages 7-9 playing cricket for the first time.
Master Blasters is a scaled down version of cricket matches for kids. Mt Eliza Cricket Club holds sessions on Thursday afternoons and is led by an experienced blasters coach. Games are played on grass using a soft ball, we have shortened the boundaries to only 20-30m long making it age appropriate. With only approx. 8 players per team every player gets to Bat and bowl irrespective of ability. Bats, balls, stumps and all equipment is supplied – so you don’t need to go out and buy all the equipment.
To ensure the safety of all participants, we use plastic bats and a rubber ball.
Master Blasters:
- Blast Pack
- Perfect for boys and girls who can bowl with a straight arm over 14m
- Approximate age range is 6 to 9 year old’s dependent on skill level
- Includes modified games of cricket
- Minimum of 6 sessions with each session lasting up to 90 minutes
- All equipment provided
Your child will learn:
- Judge, respond and hit a moving ball
- Run between wickets with calling
- Bowl with a straight arm over 16m
- Catch and throw over 16m
- Game sense
- Teamwork, Communication & Sportsmanship

JUNIOR CRICKET
AGES 8-16
The junior cricket programs are regular cricket matches played against other cricket clubs around Mt Eliza. There are a number of different age groups which players can play in. (Note if girls wish to play in this competition they can play 2 years below their current age) Details of our age groups are as follows:
Under 10
- Aged 8 or 9 as at September 1st 2022
- Matches played on Friday Nights 5pm – 7.30pm
- Using a modifed plastic cricket ball
- Protective clothing required to get used to wearing it before using harder cricket balls at Under 12 (some club kit available or bring your own)
- Play off a shortened pitch to make it easier
- All matches are played in the fun 20/20 format
- All players bat and bowl each game
Under 12
- Aged 10 or 11 as at September 1st 2022
- Matches played on Saturday morning 8.30am – 11am
- Using a modified small cricket ball for easy grip
- Wear full protective clothing (some club kit available or bring your own)
- Play off shortened pitch to make it easier
- Matches are 20/20 format or 35 over format
- All players bat and bowl each game
Under 14
- Aged 12 or 13 as at September 1st 2022
- Matches played on Sunday morning 8.30am – 11am
- Using a 142g small cricket ball for easy grip
- Wear full protective clothing (some club kit available or bring your own)
- Play off full length pitch
- Matches are 20/20 format or 40 over 2 day format
- All players must bowl each game
Under 16
- Aged 14 or 15 as as September 1st 2022
- Matches played on Friday Night 5pm – 7.30pm
- Using a 142g small cricket ball for easy grip
- Wear full protective clothing (some club kit available or bring your own)
- Play off full length pitch
- Matches are 20/20 format or 45 over 2 day format
- Opportunities for advanced players to play with the senior squad

ALL GIRLS CRICKET
AGES 10-18
Mt Eliza Cricket Club will again participate in the All Girls Cricket league. This competition is designed for girls aged 10-18 and caters for girls of all skill level from beginners to experienced. Details as follows:
- Matches played on Tuesday nights 5pm-7.30pm
- Using a modified soft ball for beginners
- Wear protective clothing (some club kit available or bring your own)
- Play off shortened pitch to make it easier
- Matches are exciting 20/20 format
- All players bat and bowl each game
- Ability to play in both Girls only and Junior format matches (see Junior Cricket)
- Bring your friends or make some new ones!
